When under stress the body produces a hormone called Cortisol. Continuously elevated cortisol levels due to stress are known to lead to a number of medical conditions.

Medical conditions related to elevated cortisol include Obesity, Type2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) and Strokes, Chronic adrenal Fatigue, Mental problems Allergies, Asthma and Premature ageing. In addition, abnormal cortisol levels have profound effects in sports, veterinary welfare and pregnancy.

Biovici has developed a Point-of-Care prototype sensor capable of detecting cortisol in Saliva. A similar method of use as Blood Glucose Monitors (different technology) which is adaptable to a mobile platform. It is planned to develop Point of Care tests for Serotonin, Adrenaline, Human Growth Hormone,Melatonin,DHEA and Dopamine.
